Two Earth Day events will take place in Summerhill!

(1) The SNDC Summerhill Community Garden will host an Earth Day event from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm in Phoenix Park II that will include:

• Free class hosted by Sacred Yoga to connect with the earth through yoga and meditation.

• Press Shop will host a workshop using recycled paper to create seed bombs.

• SNDC sewing workshop using scrap clothing to make art.

• Publix will host a quick pickle workshop teaching how to preserve vegetables from a garden. 

(2) ECO-Action will host an Earth Day Festival Saturday, April 20, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in Phoenix Park III, at the intersection of Connally Street and Georgia Ave.

The festival will be a celebration of sustainability, eco-friendly practices, and social responsibility. Attendees can look forward to a variety of engaging activities, including free soil testing, games, prizes, bounce houses, food vendors, music, and fun for people of all ages.

April 8, 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Hank Aaron’s 715th record-breaking home run! This historic achievement happened in Summerhill at the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.

The “Hank Aaron Wall” landmark commemorating this is located in the footprint of the old stadium on the west side of Hank Aaron Drive. It’s free to visit!

The Braves are hosting an opening day celebration and watch party along Georgia Avenue. This year is the the 50th anniversary of Hank Aaron’s historic 715th home run, so the Braves are bringing the celebration back to Summerhill!

The Opening Day Block Party in Summerhill begins at 3 p.m. ahead of the 3:05 p.m. first pitch.

During the game, a variety of activities are available:

• Grab a drink from the Halfway Crooks Biergarten and watch the game on their big screen. During the game, enjoy contests hosted by Braves’ In-Game Host Otis Maher.

• Watch the game on the Wood’s Chapel BBQ Patio and catch performances by the Atlanta Braves Heavy Hitters, Tomahawk Team, and BLOOPER. Also see a live chalk art mural celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hank Aaron’s 715th home run.

• Participate in a live community chalk art activation just outside Southern National.

• Dance with the Los Bravos team at BOCA. Taste their amazing food then dance to a live salsa band from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on their outdoor patio space.

• Enjoy a wine tasting at Press Shop.

• Watch out for pop-up performances and appearances by the Braves’ entertainment teams throughout the afternoon.

Atlanta Track Club will be hosting the 2024 Northside Hospital Atlanta Women’s 5K at Cheney Stadium with a course taking participants through the Grant Park and Summerhill neighborhoods.

Valentine’s Day

Kilometer Kids is Atlanta Track Club's youth running program. It's a free, game-based curriculum designed to teach kids in grades K-5 about goal setting, healthy habits, respect, and community building, all by exposing them to the sport of running. Practices take place in Summerhill at Cheney Stadium.
